| TR- 02: VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE |
| |
| Context: |
| We live in an era where communication assumes significant role in shaping our world. A cursory look at the present communication world indicates that the mainstream media is in the hands of the powerful who use this to spread consumerist, anti-poor, anti-democratic, fundamentalist values. To counter this phenomenon we need to equip people from the dalit and other marginalized communities with necessary skills so that these could come out with pro-poor communication processes and contents. In the absence of alternatives, the available talents among the poor is also co-opted by the mainstream media world |
| This programme envisages equipping 20 youth, women and men, from dalit and other marginalized groups with multifaceted visual communication skills to work on communication for social change. This programme is done in partnership with IDEAS, Madurai, and Karisal Media Unit, Alangulam. |
Objectives: |
- To train the social activists to critically look at the existing communication and media system.
|
- To train participants in media advocacy and activism.
|
- To train the participants to creatively use various media in the social action field.
|

| TR–04: UNIVERSITY YOUTH – CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES |
| |
| Context: |
| Privatisation of education is on a rampant scale. Centres of learning are converted into commercial grounds. Right to education and stopping the sale of education could be done by and large only in the company of University youth. They are the vital force in any society. Significant changes could be effected with the futuristic vision and orientation when their needs are attended to. Both, Corporates and market economy target this youth to initiate and bring about commercial mindset among the general populace. To that end, by and large, they remain the most vulnerable and exploited youth. |
| Objectives: |
- To help the students to comprehend and study the significant changes among the youth from socio-religious, economic, political and cultural perspective.
|
- To create, in the process, a sufficient space for the students from the marginalised section to understand their vulnerabilities and the victimization process that go on perennially.
|
- To effect policy changes both at the state and central levels through the publication due to the seminar and workshop.
|
- To finally stop the ‘sale of education’ as commodity and to fight for basic and fundamental education for all.
